To find a few wonderful Chinese cuisine, go to Chinatown in San Francisco where you can find some of the best you have ever tasted in addition to shopping in fun boutiques and shop with fun things to buy such as Chinese fans or Chinese kites. Phoenix Chinese RestaurantWept Overhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14500801017426958415noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3565819618639827505.post-48515158951422629902012-05-23T03:10:14.943+08:002012-05-23T03:10:14.943+08:00Haha, except for the elitism of written Chinese ch...Haha, except for the elitism of written Chinese characters, Vietnamese has all of the aspects you list above, adding the extra simplicity of having Latin alphabets. I agree that the characters are so cool though (like old Vietnamese characters). And I don't know if you've noticed before, but I also stated lots of facts when we lived in suite 2 years ago.Quan Buinoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3565819618639827505.post-20254188625706438942012-05-18T00:15:03.727+08:002012-05-18T00:15:03.727+08:00@Mom: I don't know much about it, but the pron...@Mom: I don't know much about it, but the pronunciation of Chinese has definitely changed. I know that ancient written Chinese is much more terse than modern Chinese but I don't know whether the spoken language had the same character.Dan Gilleshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14113508269924643258noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3565819618639827505.post-6923359311968929392012-05-16T00:57:09.784+08:002012-05-16T00:57:09.784+08:00I am learning a lot from your perceptive, humorous...I am learning a lot from your perceptive, humorous and well written observations. From my experience, I believe that language reflects the experiences and priorities of culture. But I'm not sure that your example of "stating the obvious" is a true distinction. We English speakers do have rote things we say in our daily transactions, just different things. For instance, when someone walks in the door, others say, "hi, how are you?" without necessarily expecting a reply, just acknowledging the entrance. One might do the same passing a jogger in the park. Daniel, it interests me that you like this aspect of Chinese conversation because you don't like or engage in small talk or "how are you" type ways of making connection in English.

Interesting that Chinese would have a distinction for different shades of blond, when we don't, given that it's a rare phenomenon for them and a common one for us. You would expect the opposite.

Is there an "old Chinese" verbal language, like Old English, that is now archaic, or has it remained the same over time?Momnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3565819618639827505.post-15538635417976340812012-05-16T00:02:46.062+08:002012-05-16T00:02:46.062+08:00@Da: Yeah, a lot of what he was saying definitely ...@Da: Yeah, a lot of what he was saying definitely isn't Mandarin, though Cantonese is still Chinese, 是不是? But at around 2:57 I think I hear him say "在哪儿?", and a little earlier, something that sounds like "会打我电话没有了?" Not sure quite what that last one would mean - "give me a call"?Dan Gilleshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14113508269924643258noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3565819618639827505.post-58214943406009334172012-05-15T20:41:49.041+08:002012-05-15T20:41:49.041+08:00Dan these are truly interesting found.
